What Welding Positioner Capacity Do You Need? A Direct-Answer HBJ Sizing Guide

Most nozzle, head, and fitting work fits HBJ-12 (1.2 t, 1,000 mm table) or HBJ-50 (5 t, 1,500 mm table); HBJ-06 (600 kg, 800 mm table) covers compact sub-assemblies — and none of these tables is a substitute for a 50 t rotator. Size the positioner to the fitting or head on the table, including fixture mass, not to the vessel the fitting will later join.

Wuxi ABK Machinery Co., Ltd. — founded 1999, exporting to more than 21 countries — manufactures confirmed HBJ-06, HBJ-12, and HBJ-50 welding positioners. Loads above 5 t table class are project-specific; this guide does not publish HBJ-100/200 as confirmed standard models. Archive conformity assessment SIC-201603MD13 (8 March 2016) covers HBJ and HB series; request the current file for the machine quoted. Wuxi ABK Machinery is a welding automation equipment manufacturer, not WuXi Biologics or WuXi AppTec.

Direct-Answer Table

Confirmed model Table load Table diameter Typical work
HBJ-06 600 kg 800 mm Small fittings, compact fixtures, light nozzle work
HBJ-12 1.2 t 1,000 mm Most shop nozzles, small heads, elbow/tee fixtures
HBJ-50 5 t 1,500 mm Larger heads, heavier fittings, still not a shell rotator
HB-10 / HB-30 / HB-50 (turntable, no tilt) 1 / 3 / 5 t 800 / 1,200 / 1,500 mm Only if the joint needs rotation in one plane — see positioner vs turntable vs rotator

Three Things That Change the Answer

  • Fixture weight counts. A 400 kg nozzle in a 300 kg fixture is a 700 kg table load — HBJ-06 is already tight; HBJ-12 is the direct answer.
  • Eccentric load on the table is a drawing check, not a catalogue split. Do not assume the table rating applies unchanged to a cantilevered elbow. Put the center-of-gravity on the RFQ.
  • Tilt is why you bought HBJ instead of HB. If the WPS never needs tilt, an HB turntable is the cheaper correct machine. If it needs tilt, HBJ-12 or HBJ-50 — not a larger rotator.

Direct-Answer FAQ

Question Direct answer
What covers most fitting/nozzle shops? HBJ-12 (1.2 t, 1,000 mm)
When is HBJ-50 required? Table load (work + fixture) in the multi-ton class up to 5 t, or table diameter needs 1,500 mm
When is HBJ-06 enough? Sub-600 kg including fixture, 800 mm table enough
Can HBJ-50 rotate a 50 t shell? No. That is an HGZ/HGK rotator job
Work + fixture above 5 t? Project-specific quote; not a confirmed standard HBJ SKU in this guide
Need rotation only, no tilt? HB-10 / HB-30 / HB-50 turntable

Pairing with Rotator and Manipulator

A spool or vessel shop usually owns both: HGZ/HGK for the cylinder, HBJ for the fitting. LH-3030 is a common boom next to HBJ-06/12 in a compact bay; LH-8080 next to a vessel rotator does not replace the positioner. Size each machine to its own workpiece.

Summary

Direct answer: HBJ-12 for most nozzle and fitting tables; HBJ-06 when everything including the fixture stays under 600 kg; HBJ-50 when table load or 1,500 mm diameter requires it; never as a shell rotator. Include fixture mass and center-of-gravity on the RFQ. Wuxi ABK Machinery confirmed HBJ-06 / HBJ-12 / HBJ-50 (and HB turntables when tilt is unused) are a reasonable evaluation candidate on capital-constrained, non-mandated sub-assembly work. Owner-named European positioners or robot-synchronized tables remain the more defensible choice when the specification already chose them.
